A white dress – the simplest of summer staples yet the hardest to wear. With Wimbledon in full swing and Ireland enduring a heatwave my fashion thoughts have turned their sartorial heads towards the white dress. This time last year I had only one white dress on my mind and that was my wedding dress. I was knee deep in fittings for what would be the most treasured dress I have ever worn. Alas this summer the white dresses I’m coveting are more of a casual nature.
Before I delve into my favourite 5 from the high street and online I think we have to address the troubles associated with such a simple dress. Let’s be honest wearing white is no mean feat. Firstly, our pale Irish skin tones don’t give the virgin tone the pop it undoubtedly deserves. Though with a mix of said heatwave and a touch of fake tan this problem can be alleviated.
Next up is underwear. I have never been prudish when it comes to showing a bit of what lies beneath. Being a self-confessed Sex and the City obsessive I took a note or two of Carrie’s penchant for wearing a brightly coloured bra under something white. This of course doesn’t always work so when in doubt nude is the better option. Don’t be fooled into thinking white will work, it doesn’t. Thirdly the one problem I can’t actually help with is spillage. My only advise is try to stay away from the red wine!
